Treviskers Tried and Tested Coastal Classics
AKA plants that laugh at the wind
We started growing and selling plants way way back in 1997. Then we had the bright idea of building a shop. Then a cafe. Then we got so busy we had to stop growing and started buying from our trusted Cornish growers.
Well we are back growing!! Here’s our tried and tested varieties;
Stipa Tenuissima- pony tails and Stipa Arundinacea- pheasants tail grass
Our absolute fave coastal grass, you will see it everywhere at Trevisker. It’s tough, it's pretty, it pairs beautifully with everything on this list. Grow in well drained soil
Erigeron Sea Breeze
Seen on Treviskers roadside stone wall and all over Cornwall . It’s a low growing, spreading, stunning perennial and flowers all summer. Grow in well drained soils
Erigeron Karvinskianus
Also seen on the wall and in the borders at Trevisker. It has a long and prolific flowering season and will freely seed itself into nooks and crannies.
Armeria or Sea pinks/ Thrift
You can see these beauties growing wild on the cliffs in the spring and summer. They make a fantastic addition to the coastal garden with their beautiful evergreen clumps that are smothered in pink flowers.
Verbena Bonariensis
This stunning, tall perennial flowers from summer to autumn with purple flowers that the pollinators love.
Absolutely gorgeous planted with Stipas
Osteospermum Juncundum
Another fabulous perennial that grows happily in stone walls and can be seen on the wall at Trevisker. There are also colourful varieties but these are annuals.
Long flowering, easy to grow and lovely ground cover. Free draining soil for these please
Lampranthus
Ive never seen a plant that gets more covered in flowers! Also perfect for stone walls and sandy soils. The flowers are bright and prolific and the leaves are succulent.
